possibilism

Geography Dictionary: possibilism

A view of the environment as a range of opportunities from which the individual may choose. This choice is based on the individual's needs and norms. It grants that the range of choices may be limited by the environment, but allows choices to be made, rather than thinking on deterministic lines.
