poster art

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email

1. Artwork displayed on a poster.

2. Technique of reproducing original artwork on a poster format. The original may be an oil painting, photograph, pastel drawing, pen and-ink sketch, watercolor or the like. Most posters are reproduced through a lithograph process (see lithography), although, when the quantity to be reproduced is not large in volume, other techniques may be employed. In the reproduction process, the poster artist must plan the layout of sheets carefully so as not to change the effect of the design and must also reproduce the artwork without sacrificing any of the color values or other elements of the display.
