A thyroid storm usually results when hyperthyroidism is present,
and infection or stress causes these symptoms to worsen. A thyroid
storm can cause high blood pressure, delirium, fever, and in
extremely rare cases heart failure. Talk with your endocrinologist
and OB/GYN about concerns regarding a thyroid storm, and ask them
about their recommendations for treating the thyroid condition
postpartum.

Though it is not common, patients with hyperthyroidism can
experience an enlarged thyroid gland depending upon age and stage
of life. An enlarged thyroid gland is more common among those with
hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyrioditis, or postpartum
thyroiditis.
