Adjective referring to something that appears impressive but is actually fake. The phrase Potemkin village referred to villages that Grigori Aleksandrovich Potemkin allegedly erected to deceive Catherine the Great. Ironically, the Potemkin villages story is itself a myth, as the villages were indeed thriving settlements.
