Biography

Rap duo Potluck probably knows hip-hop's ongoing relationship with marijuana better than most others, since their place of residence, Humboldt County, CA, is one of the marijuana production capitals of the world. Their albums basically flow just like a couple of guys, namely 1 Ton, aka James Kerri, and UnderRated, aka Josh Leiderman, strolling the town rapping about women, sports, hip-hop, and of course, that Humboldt green. Kerri, originally from San Diego, and Leiderman, born and raised in Humboldt, first met each other in 1995 in that northern California county where they both won the same DJ contest. With UnderRated handling most of the production, the duo dabbles in both underground and more accessible, mainstream-flavored music, but either way, they definitely don't stray from their West Coast origins, which is shown by some of their notable collaborators: E-40, Mystik Journeymen, the Luniz, and prolific Cali producer Bosko. Their first two albums, Humboldt County High in 2001 and Harvest Time in 2004, were released through their company, Lost Koast Productions, a business venture with musician and fellow co-producer Jefferey Simmons, Jr. However, their 2006 album, Straight Outta Humboldt, was jointly released with the Suburban Noize label, attracting them more national attention than had their prior work. ~ Cyril Cordor, All Music Guide

Potluck is a hip hop group made of American rappers, Underrated (born Josh Leiderman) and 1 Ton (born James Kerri). Potluck is currently signed with Suburban Noize Records. The group is from Humboldt County, California. Potluck has released 5 studio albums, Humboldt County High, Tha Lost Koast Kollective, Harvest Time, Straight Outta Humboldt, and most recently, Pipe Dreams. Throughout their career, Potluck has toured with artists such as Hed PE, E-40, Tech N9ne, Lloyd Banks of G-Unit, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Twiztid, Boondox, Prozak, and the Kottonmouth Kings.

Their album Pipe Dreams, released February 10, 2009, appeared on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart at #30 on February 28, 2009.[1]

Meaning Behind the Name

The name "Potluck" doesn't mean "a gathering with food", it refers to the the multiple ethnic groups that joined together to make thier albums, almost like a potluck of ideas instead of food from a collection of cultures, a quote by Underated. Most of their songs are about growing the cannabis plant, or smoking marijuana. Potluck promotes the cannabis lifestyle, respectively. Both artists have their Prop. 215 cards. Potluck has collaborated with other artists such as the Luniz, Mr. GARTH-culti-VADER (a local artist), the Kottonmouth Kings, Twiztid, etc. who are also described as marijuana "activists". Many songs by Potluck are marijuana related.

Dazed N' Dirty Tour with D12

Both D12[2] and Potluck [3] announced that they would be touring together in 2009. The tour includes Potluck, D12, and special guests such as DJ Wicked, DGAF, and King Gordy. It starts in Scottsdale, Arizona on August 16 at the Martini Ranch and spans all the way to September 26, near D12's hometown, Detroit. The Sept. 26 venue will be at the Eagle Theater in Pontiac, Michigan.
