PPL Electric Utilities pulls its weight in Pennsylvania's power market. Incorporated in 1920, the company, which transmits and distributes electricity to 1.4 million customers in eastern and central portions of the state, is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. The regulated utility operates more than 40,000 miles of overhead and underground power lines, and it is a member of the PJM Interconnection regional transmission organization (RTO). Under the state's Customer Choice Act, PPL Electric Utilities also acts as the provider of last resort for customers who don't choose an alternative supplier.
