Review

Vanessa Bell Armstrong is one of the biggest "stars" contemporary gospel music has ever produced. Her volume in Verity/Legacy's Praise & Worship series is packed with gems. There are over 70 minutes of music here, compiled from Armstrong's own albums and other comps she's contributed to, so it's a little schizophrenic in sound and sequence because there are so many different producers, but the music itself is mostly top-notch. Here are Armstrong's reads of standards like "Yes, He Loves Me" (known by most as "I Don't Know Why Jesus Loves Me"), "You Alone Are Worthy," "He Looked Beyond My Faults," "Count on Your Love," etc., all of them dripping with urban soul arrangements and Armstrong's almost superhuman prowess as a vocalist. This is not only a good collection of praise & worship material, it is also a fine introduction to Armstrong as well. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
