Biography

Present is a Belgian ensemble formed by guitarist/composer Roger Trigaux. In 1974 Trigaux founded the chamber rock group Univers Zero with drummer Daniel Denis. Trigaux left Univers Zero in 1979 to form Present with pianist Alain Rochette. Denis played in both Univers Zero and Present. Bassist Christian Genet played on the band's first LP, Triskaidekaphobie (fear of the number 13); Ferdinand Philippot played bass on the second LP, Le Poison Qui Rend Fou. After being dormant for years, Present was reformed by Trigaux in the mid-'90s; subsequent lineups have included some of the band's original members as well as Roger Trigaux' son Reginald on second guitar and American drummer Dave Kerman of the 5uu's and U Totem. The music of Present has a dark feel similar to Univers Zero, but is more rock-oriented. Biography

Trigaux was a founding member of Univers Zero and participated on the first two albums. After Heresie (1979) he left Univers Zero to concentrate on his own vision and founded Present. The early lineup of Present featured fellow Univers Zero members Daniel Denis and Christian Genet playing drums and bass respectively.

Present disbanded after releasing Le poison qui rend fou in 1985, but reformed a decade later. The new lineup featured Roger's son Réginald as a second guitarist, another former Univers Zero member, Guy Segers, on bass, and drummer Dave Kerman from the 5uu's.

In September 2009 Present played a gig together with Univers Zero in France (Cap Découverte / Maison de la Musique - Blaye-les-Mines) which was a very great pleasure for both groups. They played two compositions by Roger Trigaux.

Present Acoustic

Present Acoustic is a "classical" variant of the band featuring grand piano, percussion and vocals. It premièred at a Rock in Opposition festival in Southern France in April 2007, where they performed as "Present", their regular act, and as "Present Acoustic", where they played two grand pianos, "a lot of percussion" and sang.[1]
