Taiwanese shoppers can thank heaven for 7-Eleven thanks to President Chain Store Corp. Established as a unit of Uni-President in 1987, the group primarily operates 4,800-plus 7-Eleven stores throughout the country as well as in China and the Philippines. Through its President Coffee division, it operates more than 220 licensed Starbucks coffee bars. President also operates drugstores, supermarkets, and specialty food stores (Mister Donut) via more than a dozen different subsidiaries and affiliated companies. A new tie up with Cold Stone Creamery of the US will open about 165 ice cream shops in China and Taiwan over the next several years. Overall, President Chain Store Corp. operates about 5,400 stores.
