Press Holdings is the name of a British holding company owned by the Barclay brothers which has: The Spectator and the Apollo arts magazine, as well as operating some online journalism ventures such as handbag.com. Its chief executive is Andrew Neil.
In December 2005, it sold The Scotsman publications to the Edinburgh-based Johnston Press for £160m, having paid £82m for the group in 1995. The Barclays are property magnates, and still own The Scotsman’s headquarters having sold the old historic building for conversion to an Edinburgh hotel. The Barclays directly own the Daily Telegraph though not through Press Holdings.
