Plot

A fast-talking rainmaker, his wealthy acquaintance, and an unemployed aerospace engineer forge an unusual partnership that hastens the deterioration of their relationships while forever altering the course of their lives in director Paul Schneider's minimalist tale of American entrepreneurialism. Curtis Prentiss (Billy Crudup) is a terminally optimistic dreamer who rolled into a small town with little more than an enthusiastic sales pitch and an unusual set of blueprints. When Curtis' unique plans for a personal "rocket belt" that he claims will revolutionize personal travel captivates the imagination of a gifted but out-of-work engineer (Paul Giamatti), all three men embark on an ambitious quest to raise the capitol needed to finance their endeavor and make flight more accessible to the masses. While the results are indeed promising, the stress of both the task at hand and some unexpected success soon takes an unhealthy toll on the venturesome partnership. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Plot

A sweet-natured guy enlists his pals to help him create and market his idea for a rocket-powered belt. But can their friendship withstand unexpected success? [2] The movie is a fictionalized version of true events leading to the development and disappearance of the RB2000 Rocket Belt in 1995.

Critical response

As of September 3, 2009, it had a 6.5/10 rating from 150 votes on IMDB[3] and a 20% Rotten rating from Top Critics on Rotten Tomatoes, although there are only five reviews for the movie.[4] Robert Koehler of Variety criticized the film as being "overly calculated" and predictable, noting that the only bright spot in the film was its soundtrack.[5] Scott Weinberg of Cinematical, however, writes that the movie's ending is anything but "pat, obvious, or predictable," and goes on to say that it is worth seeing on the strength of the actors' performances alone.[6]

It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance[7], but did not win.
