Biography

Primer 55 is not your average group of rock stars. The band was formed in 1997 after years of suffering through the stale music scene in Memphis, TN, dominated by death metal and cover bands. Rather than sit back and complain, the group decided to do something about it. Guitarist Bobby Burns, led by his heavy metal past, co-founded the band with vocalist J-Sin, who added a more hip-hop flavor to the mix. The two enlisted the help of friends Mike "Jr." Christopher on bass and Josh McLane on drums. They soon gained an underground following from their intense live performances and in 1999 released their self-titled debut album on the independent label Propellant Transmissions. Shortly after this release, the group was offered a contract with Island Def Jam. After they graciously accepted the offer, the group continued with their hybrid heavy metal/hip-hop style on their 2000 release Introduction to Mayhem. The album is a trip into the depths of extreme passion and music authority. With the help of Incubus DJ Chris Kilmore, (hed) p.e. frontman MCUD, and Relative Ash vocalist Mark Harrington, the album solidified Primer 55 as a musical force to be reckoned with. Following the release, the band toured almost nonstop and found themselves amongst the elite of hard rock. In 2001, the band replaced drummer Josh McLane, who left for personal reasons, with John Kamoosi to continue work on new material. ~ Josh Loehr

History

The band was formed in 1997 by guitarist Bobby Burns, who was influenced by heavy metal music and vocalist J-Sin, who was influenced by hip hop.[2] Burns and J-Sin enlisted the help of bassist Mike "Jr." Christopher and drummer Josh McLane. After the release of their self-titled debut album on the independent label Propellant Transmissions, Primer 55 signed a contract with Island Records, releasing their second studio album, Introduction to Mayhem on January 25, 2000. The album featured appearances from Incubus turntablist Chris Kilmore and Hed PE frontman Jared Gomes.[2] In September 2000, Primer 55 toured alongside Soulfly, downset., and Slaves on Dope.[3]

.[2] On August 14, 2001, Primer 55 released their third studio album, The New Release. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and #102 on the Billboard 200. The album's single, "This Life" peaked at #37 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.[4] In 2002, the band performed as the opening act at the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos in Peoria, Illinois.[5] In 2007, the band signed with Crash Music Inc. and using Disc2day CD replication, released their fourth studio album, Family for Life on November 6, 2007.[6] After the release of the album, former frontman and founding member Jason "J-Sin" Luttrell left the band, due to personality clashes with co-founder Burns over his drug and alcohol addictions. Bobby Burns is the only remaining member of the original Primer 55. The band then recruited former SORE frontman Donny "The DRP" Polinske as the new frontman.[7] The band performed at the 2008 Gathering of the Juggalos.[5] The band is currently working on the "Free to be" album, .[8] In April 27, the band posted a new song called Flexin, in their MySpace. A music video for the song is also being made by Scott "El" Haney for El Haney Video Productions.[9] The Flexin video was released July 29th 2009 through El Haney Video Production's youtube account [10]
