(embryology) Thickening formed by a group of cells at the anterior end of the primitive streak in vertebrate gastrulas.

A knotlike thickening at the anterior end of the primitive streak of the blastoderm at the point of origin of the embryonic head. Also called Hensen's node, primitive knot.

The primitive knot in the early embryo from which the notochord develops. It establishes the longitudinal axis and the polarity of the embryo. Called also primitive node, primitive knot.
