In early 2004, Primus Canada acquired Ottawa-based Magma Communications Ltd.,[1] an ISP with customers based mostly in the Ottawa and Toronto metropolitan areas.[citation needed] In 2006, Primus Canada merged Magma's customer databases, services and call centres into its own organization, gradually phasing out the Magma brand.[citation needed]
Primus Canada's parent company, Primus Telecommunications Group, Incorporated, filed for bankruptcy on March 16, 2009. It emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 1, 2009, with the shareholders of the original company suffering a near total loss of their investment. The company now trades under ticker symbol PTGi.
