Plot

Marshall Neilan stands out, both as actor and director, in this romantic drama based on the play by Edward Peple. William Peyton, a struggling sculptor (Neilan), leaves New York and his society fiancée Alice Travers (Bessie Eyton) to try his luck in London. While there, he creates his masterpiece, with Arline Arrington (Mary Charleson) as his model. Arline becomes deathly ill, but before she dies, she has Peyton promise to take care of her little daughter, Claudia. Meanwhile, Alice's cousin Helen (Margaret Fawcett) is in London and, believing that Peyton had an affair with Arline, she tells Alice. Alice travels to London herself, with Paul Helmer (Cecil Holland) in tow. When she hears Claudia call Peyton "Daddy," she believes the worst and marries Helmer. As the years pass, Claudia grows into a beautiful young woman (also played by Charleson) and is courted by Jack Rodney, the Earl of Huntington (Charles Gerard), to whom it's clear that Claudia in love with Peyton. Alice, meanwhile, has become a widow after suffering at the hands of her brutal husband for many years. She lets Peyton know that she is once again available, and Claudia, who thinks she is standing in the way of Peyton's happiness, duly accepts Rodney's marriage proposal. Rodney, however, knows that she and Peyton are meant to be together, and he reunites them. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
