Mathilde, Princesse (1820-1904). Niece of Napoleon I, cousin of Napoleon III. Her salon in Paris and at Saint-Gratien was visited by many leading writers, including Flaubert, Sainte-Beuve, and Gautier, to the last of whom she gave a sinecure post as her librarian.
