Review

Drown's sophomore effort, 1998's Product of a Two Faced World, is a potent blend of heavy metal (a la Pantera) and electro-rock (White Zombie, Stabbing Westward, etc.). An overall heavier and more aggressive record than their debut (1993's Hold On to Hollow), Product is more focused as well; spending a few years touring the U.S. and Canada has undoubtedly tightened up Drown's sound. The album's opener, "You Never Listened," and displays all the ingredients of Drown -- vocals that shift from angrily screamed to calmly spoken and music that disguises itself as alternative before it metamorphoses into raging heavy metal. The music is dense for the most part, with swirling repetitive riffs and drum motifs, momentary pauses for singer Lauren to purge his demons, then right back to the electro-metal warpath (as heard on "The Day I Walked Away," "Kerosene," "The Dirtiest Hand," and "Two Faced You"). ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
