(geology) Seaward buildup of a beach, delta, or fan by nearshore deposition of sediments transported by a river, by accumulation of material thrown up by waves, or by material moved by longshore drifting.

The accumulation of beach material which leads to an extension of the beach seawards. When there is an excess in the supply of sediment, a beach will prograde. Progradation is a feature of, for example, delta and mangrove coasts.
