It serves customers in North and South Carolina, through utility Carolina Power & Light (dba Progress Energy Carolinas), and in Florida, through Florida Power (or Progress Energy Florida). Progress Energy has been seeking to improve its operational efficiency while expanding its alternative energy power sources in order to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2011 the company agreed to be acquired by Duke Energy for $13.7 billion.
