Plot

This performance of Yuri Grigorovich's original ballet Ivan the Terrible - which uses the Sergei Profokiev film score from the two Eisenstein films, Ivan The Terrible, Pt. 1 and Ivan the Terrible, Part II (in addition to original compositions by Mikhail Chulaki) -- was recorded at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1990. The production stars Irek Mukhamedov in the title role of Ivan IV, Czar of Russia; Natalya Bessmertnova as Anastasia, his wife; and Gediminas Taranda as Prince Kurbsky. Ivan - a production of The Bolshoi Ballet -- features accompaniment by The Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and The Children's Choir of the Bolshoi Theatre.
