• Prom as an abbreviation of Promenade:
  • Promenade, a paved or wooden area by the sea where people walk ('promenade') in order to be seen by others.
  • Prom, a formal social event - usually a dance - generally held near the end of the last two years of high school (originally US-specific).
  • In the UK and Australia, a Prom is an informal classical concert by a major orchestra, including:
    • The Proms, an eight-week popular classical music series of 'Prom concerts' held annually each summer at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
    • The Sydney Proms, given by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney Town Hall, in which all the seats are removed from the main auditorium space and the audience sits on rugs and cushions they bring.
    • The Canberra Prom, given annually by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.
