Review

Promatic is a hip-hop amalgamation of lower-class superstars, and their full-length debut is an interesting ride through pure ghetto rap. MCs Proof (who also happens to be a member of the infamous D-12) and underground rapper Dogmatic have evident skills, although they in no way compare with such legends as Rakim or Chuck D, and their humorous thug-life tales make this self-titled debut an enjoyable listen. As these two MCs rap about Detroit life, the feminine body, oral sex, drugs, and the other expected topics, one finds it hard not to like the slick rap flow rolling from the speakers. Fellow D-12 member Bizarre makes a comical guest appearance on "Ecstasy," which helps thrust this song into the spotlight, yet although Promatic has made an entertaining album, it is nothing more than generic hip-hop, and explores no new ground. ~ Jason D.
