Promise Technology keeps data storage under control. The company makes storage controller cards and redundant array of independent disk (RAID) subsystems, interfacing through the Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment standard and the newer Serial ATA. Its controllers are designed for use with computers ranging from desktop PCs to midrange enterprise systems, and its storage systems include direct attached storage (DAS) and storage area network (SAN) configurations. Promise partners include hard-disk drive makers, such as Seagate, as well as computer manufacturers, including Dell, Gateway, and Fujitsu. Founded in 1988, the company went public in Taiwan in 2002.
