Chants from the Mass and Office whose texts vary from day to day, as distinct from those whose texts remain constant (Ordinary chants). It chiefly refers to the Mass chants Introit, Gradual, Alleluia, Tract, Offertory and Communion, which are usually sung as plainchant.
