History
The Posse started off as a group of multiple members known as the Backyard Posse until founders Iván G. and Nick Scarfo met DJ Paul and Juicy J. Together they founded Prophet Entertainment. The label had many acts like Three 6 Mafia, Prophet Posse, and the Killa Klan Kaze. The label was very successful[citation needed] until Nick Scarfo had a disagreement with Three 6 Mafia and sued over the label. Nick Scarfo provided the funding for the production equipment and financially helped to form triple six mafia whilst Dj Paul and Juicy handled the production whilst rapping along with up to 20 others on various tapes and collaborations. DJ Paul and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia went on to form their own label Hypnotize Minds.[citation needed]
In early 2000 a lot of former members of Triple 6 Mafia regrouped to join the new Prophet Posse which is still lead by Nick Scarfo. They have released three albums since 2007 with a large amount of underground success and sales considering the lack of major national promotion. A lot of former three six fans have switched to the Prophet Posse sound as it is largely made up of former three six artists.
Prophet Posse is definitely continuing to record and produce the underground style that used to be associated with Triple 6 Mafia whilst Three 6 Mafia have gone to a much more commercial level with their themes and songs. This has cost DJ Paul and Juicy J a lot of their hardcore fans but at the same time since making Choices the movie, ditching a few of their most prominent underground artists and winning an Oscar they have gained much more national and global recognition. Because of this and along with their reported unwillingness to support or help local artists there still exists a level of bad blood between Three 6 Mafia and Prophet Posse.
Members of both groups are all childhood friends, relatives, school friends or know each other through previous musical collaborations in Memphis, Tennessee, so it definitely is not all out war between the two factions, just a lot of bad feeling on stuff that occurred in the past.
