Protogyny

(physiology) A condition in hermaphroditic or dioecious organisms in which the female reproductive structures mature before the male structures.

A condition in hermaphroditic or dioecious animals in which the female reproductive structures mature before the male structures. It is of rare occurrence. Botanically, protogyny occurs in some plant species in which the stigma develops, withers, and dies before the anthers mature. See also Protandry.
