Review

Being from the Washington D.C. area, it's only fitting that Grand National reveal an influence from D.C.'s post-punk sound: complex, abrasive guitar parts, bellowing vocals, and an all-around attitude of cynicism. What make GN stand out, however, are their slight classic rock impressions from the likes of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Grand Funk Railroad. An occasional use of a wah-wah pedal and vocals from Zac Eller, who sounds exactly like Fugazi frontman Ian McKaye, mark their sound. Both "Psychic Vampires" and "Vitamin City" score points in originality despite the cheesy, "rocking out" guitar chops. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
