PTL

(disambiguation)

The use of terms PTL and "Praise The Lord" can be confusing.

In 1973, Trinity Broadcasting Systems was founded by Paul Crouch, Jan Crouch, Jim Bakker and Tammy Bakker. At some time, it changed its name to the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

After a falling-out between Jim Bakker and Paul Crouch, the Bakkers left to start the "Praise The Lord" Network in Charlotte, NC. Their flagship television program was called "The PTL Club". The "Praise The Lord" Network was also referred to as "The PTL Network", or simply "PTL".

PTL collapsed in 1987 in the wake of a sexual harassment and embezzlement scandal involving Jim Bakker. Crouch bought the rights to PTL's flagship television program, The PTL Club, renaming the show "Praise The Lord".

Hence, "PTL" and "Praise The Lord" are often ambiguously and interchangeably used for:

  • "People That Love"
  • "Praise The Lord"
  • The "Praise The Lord" Television program, the Trinity Broadcasting Network's flagship Television show which took over from "The PTL Club" Television show
  • The now defunct "Praise The Lord" Network (or "PTL" Network) in Charlotte, NC which at the time produced "The PTL Club" Television show
  • The "The PTL Club" television program, now called the "Praise The Lord" Television program
