The Pulitzer Prize for the Novel was a prize awarded between 1918 and 1947. In 1948, it was replaced by the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.[1]

Although the Pulitzer Board initially agreed with that judgment, the president of Columbia University, Nicholas Murray Butler, persuaded the board to reverse its judgment becauase he deemed the novel offensive, and no award was given that year.
