Marketing Dictionary:

pure renewal

Subscription renewal received after the first renewal of a new subscription. The first renewal, called the conversion renewal, is typically harder to sell than a pure renewal. If a subscriber has purchased a conversion renewal and if the quality and price of the product or service remains constant, the purchase tends to become habitual, and thus less elaborate and expensive renewal promotion techniques can be used effectively to sell pure renewals.
