Put The Bite On

Idioms: put the arm on

Also, put the bite or touch on. Ask for or demand money, as in He's the youngest and he's always putting the arm on Dad. The first of these slangy usages, first recorded in 1939, alludes to a robber assaulting someone by yoking his arm around the victim's throat. The bite variant, first recorded in 1919, similarly alludes to a violent attack. The last, touch, has been slang for "theft" since the mid-1800s.

Poker Guide: Put The Bite On
Top

The act of someone trying to borrow money from other players in order to continue playing.

SoundPoker Says: This could be considered a bad idea from both sides of the fence. First of all you are borrowing money to someone who doesn't have any left. Secondly, you give that player the opportunity to win money back (some of which could be yours). Finally, this player probably has no money left because of poor play. In home games where the setting is much more informal, lending a player money (usually because they are a friend) is more common. However, at most casino's a player with chips at the table cannot give another player more chips, they can give the player who has no money left cash to buy more chips from the cage person.
