A federal territory and the new federal administrative capital of Malaysia, 16 miles (25 km) south of Kuala Lumpur, which is still under construction. The first phase was completed in 1999, but the entire project may not be finished until 2010 or later. Some government offices have moved, although not all will have done so before 2012. Both the territory and the city are named after Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj (1903–90), the first post-independence prime minister of Malaya (1957–63) and of Malaysia (1963–70), with jaya 'victory'.
