Review

Listening to Brothomstates' first releases and hearing about the Warp recording contract bring all kinds of biases about this album. Lassi Nikko sure has listened to his Aphex Twin and Autechre, and therefore everybody had their doubts and fears that his music could turn out to be another Autechre wannabe. Luckily, Qtio proves that Nikko has imagination for music, and brings entirely new elements to late-'90s electronic music. No one likes being compared to other artists, but Brothomstate's Qtio might be a crossover with Autechre and Aphex Twin as well. Nikko's basic elements recall a lot of Autechre's records, and new elements have also been produced that are quite a bit like Richard D. James' experiments with his music. Qtio and Brothomstates himself prove that listeners might have a savior of electronic music here. ~ Antti J. Ravelin, Rovi
