The note, in American usage called an eighth-note, that is half the value of a crotchet/quarter-note and double that of a semiquaver/16th-note. The equivalent of the old fusa, it is first found in 15th-century music. In early sources it is shown as a void note with two flags. The French term for it, croche, should not be confused with the English crotchet. See Note values.
