Autoroute 20 is a major Quebec Autoroute, following the Saint Lawrence River through one of the more densely-populated parts of Canada, and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. At 548 km (340.5 mi), it is the longest Autoroute in Quebec. It is one of two main links between Montreal and Quebec City; the other is the A-40.
There are two sections of A-20, separated by a 82 km (51.0 mi) gap which is to be filled in 2015 (according to the Bas-Saint-Laurent plan). The length of A-20 will then be 641 km (398 mi).

Main section
The main, and longest at 517 km (321.2 mi), begins at the Ontario-Quebec border near Rivière-Beaudette as the continuation of Ontario Highway 401. It ends east of Rivière-du-Loup at Route 132. It is a continuous four to eight-lane freeway, with two exceptions:
- An at-grade railroad crossing remains near Saint-Hyacinthe, immediately east of Exit 130; several others had existed but were abandoned or grade-separated.
- A short section through Vaudreuil-Dorion and L'Île-Perrot is a four-lane urban arterial road with a maximum speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) in Vaudreuil-Dorion and 70 km/h (43 mph) in L'Île-Perrot.
Between Route 138 and the Turcot Interchange, the carriageways on Autoroute 20 are reversed, making it one of the only stretches of roadway in Canada where traffic drives on the left side of the road.
Rimouski section
The eastern section begins at Route 132 in Le Bic and ends at Route 132 in Mont-Joli after extensions were completed in 2008. The original part of this section was to provide a bypass around Rimouski. This two-lane freeway is 42 km (26.1 mi) long. No further eastward extensions are planned.
Other names
The section of the A-20 from its beginning at the Ontario-Quebec border to the Turcot Interchange is (in addition to the A-20 designation) officially named the Autoroute du Souvenir (Remembrance Highway) in honour of fallen soldiers. Signage includes a red poppy on a green background.
The 410 km (254.8 mi) section between the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel and Cacouna, is officially named after Jean Lesage.
Between Autoroute 25 in Longueuil and Autoroute 85 in Rivière-du-Loup, the A-20 is part of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Some anglophone Montrealers refer to the A-20 as the Two and Twenty[citation needed].
