(computer science) A computer program that allows a user to retrieve information from a data base and have it displayed on a terminal or printed out.


 
 

Software that counts, sums and retrieves selected records from a database. It may be part of a large application and be limited to one or two kinds of retrieval, such as pulling up a customer account on screen, or it may refer to a query language that allows any condition to be searched and selected.
