Quogue (pronounced Kwahg) is an incorporated village in Southampton, Suffolk County, New York on the South Shore of Long Island. As of the United States 2000 Census, the population was 1,018.

Geography

Quogue is located at 40°49′22″N 72°36′5″W / 40.82278°N 72.60139°W / 40.82278; -72.60139 (40.822723, -72.601319)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.7 square miles (17.2 km²), of which, 4.2 square miles (10.9 km²) of it is land and 2.4 square miles (6.3 km²) of it (36.69%) is water.l

Demographics

It should be noted that the following demographic information is highly skewed since most of Quogue residents are those with summer homes; therefore, they are not considered in the following census information:

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,018 people, 453 households, and 294 families residing in the village. The population density was 242.2 people per square mile (93.6/km²). There were 1,322 housing units at an average density of 314.6/sq mi (121.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 93.03% White, 4.42% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.75% of the population.

There were 453 households out of which 22.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.75.

In the village the population was spread out with 17.7% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 34.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males.
