After one album recorded for the indie-experimental label Worm Interface, Jake Mandell moved to Germany's Force Inc and delivered an album much closer to the latter label's penchant for driving, minimalist techno that's just a bit heavier on the beat than the effects. Contrary to much of his prior output, most of these tracks would easily make it on the dancefloor; the highlights ("Emulsified Ossature," "Jabot," the Basic Channel-inspired "Red Auscultation") feature pounding grooves and harsh breakbeats learned from the drum'n'bass crowd. Still, Quondam Current is a cauldron of experimental textures, a work that features all manner of electronically enhanced clicks, pops, and scratches layered five or six at a time. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
