rēgifugium

rēgifugium (‘flight of the king’), ceremony held at Rome on 24 February, of which all that is known is that the rex sacrorum, after the sacrifice, concluded the ritual by running away from the Comitium. It was thought in ancient times that this symbolized the flight of the last Tarquin king from Rome.
