Plot

India's famed director Satyaji Ray took time out from his fictional dramas to direct and write this interesting documentary on his fellow Bengali, Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore was born into a family of fourteen children in 1861, and since he first started writing poetry at the age of seven, his vocation appeared early in his life. (He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913). Director Ray aptly draws out the inner world of the young poet as he struggles with his writing and other personal problems. Still photos, archival footage, and enacted clips are combined to portray the young Tagore and how he came to his decision dedicate himself to the literary world. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Rabindranath Tagore is a 1961 documentary on the life and works of noted Bengali author Rabindranath Tagore. It was made on the anniversary of his hundredth birthday and was written and directed by Satyajit Ray. According to the official website:

The dramatized sequences of boy Rabi (Rabindranath Tagore) and young Tagore in his twenties are moving and lyrical. Ray has been reported to have said, 'Ten or twelve minutes of it are among the most moving and powerful things that I have produced'. [1].
