Rachel de Queiroz

Rachel de Queiroz (November 17, 1910November 4, 2003) was a Brazilian author and journalist.

She began her career in journalism in 1927 and entered the literary world with the novel O Quinze in 1930. It was recently made into a film.[1] In 1964 she became Brazil's representative to the UN and in 1977 she became the first woman writer to enter the Academia Brasileira de Letras. She won the Camoens Prize (1993) and the Prêmio Jabuti. She died of heart disease in her apartment in Rio de Janeiro about two weeks before her 93rd birthday.
