Oxford Dictionary of Biochemistry:

radiation-chemical reaction

Top

any chemical reaction that is initiated by the absorption of radiation but is distinguishable from a photochemical reaction by its lack of specificity (i.e. by giving rise to a variety of reaction products) and by occurring at higher radiation energies (i.e. by absorption either of electromagnetic radiation from the mid-ultraviolet region onwards or of high-energy particulate radiation) and thus by resulting always in the formation of detectable ions.
