Plot

The "Gold Dust Twins" are two L.A. gals who kidnap a likable-loser type who's a driving instructor (Alan Arkin) and force him to take them from Los Angeles to New Orleans. On the way they run into action of all sorts, and by the time they get to the Bayou state, the three have bonded as buddies. ~ All Movie Guide

The film was the second film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, for which he received an associate producer credit. Plot

Idiotic driving instructor and former United States Marine Corps Seargent Gunny Rafferty (Alan Arkin) lives in poverty near Hollywood, California. He allows two women (Sally Kellerman and Mackenzie Phillips) to kidnap him after hitching a ride in an attempt to for them to get to New Orleans. He eventually enjoys their company and the three take a road trip to Las Vegas, Nevada and end up in Tucson, Arizona.

The film received favorable reviews at the time. Richard F. Shepard of The New York Times finishes up his review:

Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins passes the time pleasantly enough [with] several belly laughs and lots of chuckles.
