Bengali movement founded in 1886 by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and continued by Swami Vivekananda, offering an interpretation of Hinduism allied to Christian ideals of compassion, service, and voluntary work in the world, as opposed to renunciation and fatalism. It thus runs schools, colleges, hostels, hospices and development programmes.
