Review

Of all the LPs issued by the Historical label, this is the most exciting one. The two very colorful performances by Cecil Scott's Bright Boys ("Lawd, Lawd" and "In a Corner") are classics, The New Orleans Owls' "White Ghost Shivers" and The Blue Ribbon Syncopators' "Scratch" are quite memorable and there are also heated numbers by Williamson's Beale St. Frolic Orchestra, Jelly James, Tiny Parham and Walter Barnes. This LP will be hard to find but it is highly recommended to anyone with any interest in early jazz. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
