Review

In 1956 cornetist Muggsy Spanier and a variety of other available trad jazz musicians in Chicago cut a series of 45s for the jukeboxes of Buzz Seeburg. Only a few of the eighteen titles on this LP from the collector's IAJRC label actually came out at the time. Spanier is featured with trombonist George Brunies, clarinetist Peanuts Hucko or Charlie Spero, pianist Floyd Bean and a rhythm section, jamming through brief versions of a variety of Dixieland standards. The music is frequently joyous and swinging, even if does not contain any real surprises. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
