A native of Sulligent, Johnson played at an average Class 3A high school and had no Division I-A offers.[1] He chose to attend Alabama as a walk-on running back, and was later awarded a scholarship and became the team leader in the secondary as a free safety.
In the 2008 game versus LSU Johnson had three interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown, and one in overtime that helped Alabama win the game and secure the SEC West Division crown.
Johnson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round (95th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has 5 tackles on special teams for the 2009 season. He became a restricted free agent following the 2011 season, but was re-signed on April 16, 2012.
