Rautavaara is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 1,940 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 1,235.12 square kilometres (476.88 sq mi) of which 83.92 km2 (32.40 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 1.69 inhabitants per square kilometre (4.4 /sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
