Plot
Detective Blair Valdez (Mario Van Peebles), a corrupt loose cannon on the police force, endangers his girlfriend Izabel (Nicollette Sheridan) when police officials -- and deadly serious mobsters -- find out about his ongoing money laundering scheme that is taking profits from both organizations. He turns for help to his old friend Ethan Lang (Zach Galligan), a burned-out former cop who is now a mild-mannered college professor, but Blair's increasingly violent tactics make salvation impossible. Blair spirals into danger and corruption, and he takes everyone in his wake with him.

Review
Mario Van Peebles' considerable charisma carries the day in this competently constructed example of a modern B-movie, directed with zest and adrenaline by Avi Nesher. Strong, if pointless, gunfight scenes are dramatically staged, automobile mayhem is extravagantly choreographed, and characterizations are easily understood even when the plot is not -- which is often. Zach Galligan's character would seem to have an easy fit in the story, but at the midway point one wonders what he's doing there at all. Nicollette Sheridan, lovely as ever, gives her "woman in peril" part an honest effort, but Van Peebles' nuanced descent into psychosis is the only worthy surprise, and he does it well enough to give genre fans a reason to think there's more here than there is. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
