Biography

Innovative American cinematographer Ray Rennahan began his film career as a cameraman in 1917. He became one of the pioneers of color cinematography in the early '20s; during the '30s, he became one of the first to try the groundbreaking tri-color system from Technicolor. Among those early color experiments was the short La Cucaracha (1934). When not working as a director of photography, Rennahan worked as a color specialist on many prestigious films. For his work on Gone With the Wind (1939) and Blood and Sand (1941), he shared Academy Awards.
